DESCRIPTION

Released in Scarlet & Violet: Obsidian Flames on August 11, 2023, Absol ex 214/197 is the Ultra Rare version of Absol ex from the set. Its artwork was illustrated by PLANETA Mochizuki, with the regular Absol ex appearing separately as 135/197 with artwork by Nisota Niso.

The card originated in Japan's Ruler of the Black Flame expansion, released on July 28, 2023, where the same artwork appeared as Absol ex 126/108. The English release followed roughly two weeks later as part of Obsidian Flames. Since 214 falls beyond the set's standard 197-card numbering, it is part of the expansion's secret-numbered Ultra Rare cards.

This release brought Absol back as a Pokémon ex during the Scarlet & Violet era. The card's Future Sight attack is also fitting for Absol, referencing a move closely associated with its ability to sense approaching disasters. For collectors, 214/197 is particularly notable as a modern full-art treatment dedicated entirely to Absol.
